Felicitas Kusch-Lango

I have lived in big cities, in small towns and in the middle of nowhere on a farm.

The turtle is one of my power animals. Horses inspire me. Dogs always makes me smile.

I share my days with three dogs, and our long, meandering walks are how I keep my sanity.

If my husband were not a chef and amazing cook I probably would weigh 20 pounds less.

We raised our son with stories and wonder—I tried to convince him that on full moon nights, cars could fly. He did not buy it,

I write poetry. I have my favorite poets.

I only read one poem a week. I want to taste it word by word like eating small bites of a Sacher torte on a late September afternoon in a cafe’ in Vienna .

I love walking barefoot during the day. I sleep with socks at night.

I speak four languages—none of them perfectly but well enough.

I seek out any body of water to swim or float in—it’s where I feel most embodied and alive.

The beauty of flowers, old churches, and ancient trees sometimes move me to tears.

When I’m upset, I search the utility room for hidden chocolate. Chocolate never fails to dispel a bitter mood,

I keep a shrine in my home to honor the sacred, the unseen, the remembered.

I’m afraid every time I get on a plane, but I do it anyway—because seeing the clouds and the earth from above is just too beautiful to miss
