Literacy expert Julie A. Taylor, PhD, is an education and curriculum consultant who provides professional development, training, and coaching to educators, administrators, and leaders in nonprofit organizations and state education agencies across the United States and internationally. An educator since 1994, she has a background as an elementary education teacher, a teacher of English learners, a special education inclusion teacher, a Spanish teacher, a reading interventionist, a literacy coach, and a staff developer. She has also served as a mentor teacher, a student teaching supervisor, and an instructor for teachers seeking their state reading endorsement.

A long-standing member of the International Literacy Association and the International Dyslexia Association, Dr. Taylor has presented at numerous state and national reading conferences since 2014. She is also LETRS and Orton Gillingham trained, and highly experienced in teaching practices that align to the science of reading. During her years as an education consultant, Dr. Taylor has written literacy curricula, reading intervention materials, and response to intervention manuals. She has expert knowledge and experience in implementing state and national literacy standards into everyday teaching practices.

Dr. Taylor specializes in transforming research into practical and effective instructional methods for teachers. She strives to implement systematic and supportive literacy frameworks in schools, a scaling-up model for large districts, and a train-the-trainer model for district literacy leaders—all while aligning with the most up-to-date reading research and evidence-based literacy programs.

In 1994, Dr. Taylor earned bachelor’s degrees in elementary education and Spanish from Keene State College in New Hampshire, a master’s degree in teaching English as a second language from Rhode Island College in 2001, and a doctoral degree in curriculum and instructional leadership from Concordia University in Chicago in 2021.
