Dawn L Helmrich

The author, Dawn Hemlrich has spent the last 30 years advocating for survivors of sexual assault. Over the course of her life’s work, she was an appointed Commissioner for the City of Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, including serving as chair of the commission for 3 years. She spent two terms of 6 years apiece as a board member for the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault and is currently a RAINN Speakers Bureau member. Dawn spoke in front of legislators to change laws around advocacy for survivors. She also spoke on behalf of timely rape kit testing. Dawn Brought Denim Day to the State of Wisconsin. She has been the recipient of the Voices of Courage Award, the Hope Shining Blue, Thriver Award, and the YWCA Empowering Woman award. Dawn is an adjunct professor at Alverno College in Milwaukee. She lives in Wauwatosa, WI with her husband Jim and has two beautiful grown children, Britny and Clayton.
