Jake Simmons

Jake Simmons, Ph.D., is Professor of Communication and Associate Dean of the Judith Enyeart Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities at Missouri State University. He is the author of three books and nearly 30 articles and book chapters. His co-authored essay, “Understanding the African American Student Experience in Higher Education through a Relational Dialectics Perspective,” received the Distinguished Article Award from the National Communication Association’s Instructional Development Division. Another of his co-authored works, “Performance Studies in Communication,” earned the Lila Heston Award from the National Communication Association. Jake served as the Editor in Chief of Text and Performance Quarterly (2022–2024), a leading national peer-reviewed journal of the National Communication Association, and continues to contribute to the editorial boards of multiple academic journals. He is recognized for his presentations to various boards, organizations, and academic audiences on the importance of intercultural communication.
