Born and raised in New England, Kimalee attended church with her family just like any other kid. Except—things were different at Cross Independent Baptist Church. After years of noticing troubling incidents, she began to suspect that something was seriously wrong. Reverend Abbott hid his agenda through cleverly crafted sermons and visions. The manipulation and control over his congregation escalated. Over time, his power increased in severity. The oppression Kimalee’s family and many others endured left behind a trail of sorrow, pain, and utter destruction.
Based on a true story and written as fiction, Under Authority reveals what took place in this unusual church. It wasn’t until adulthood that Kimalee finally understood why she recognized disturbing events in the church when others didn’t. It was because she was meant to recall it one day and show those who suffer that they are not alone. Under Authority is for victims of abusive church leaders and for all Christians who hurt. They can confront their pain, identify why it happened, discover hope, choose forgiveness, and find redemption.
Thou shalt not question, published in Plain Truth Magazine, was an article Kimalee wrote about her experience. It is a glimpse into the story of Under Authority. She has also written articles for Foster Focus Magazine, Ministry Magazine, and ADDitude magazine. She was a ghost writer for a start-up business as well as a guest blogger. One of her short stories was published in a collection called The Write Way produced by author James Hudson (available on Amazon). Kimalee has a website and has been a part of a local writer’s group. She is also a member of the writing communities of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and has attended a Christian writer’s conference. Kimalee completed the “Breaking into Print” program with The Long Ridge Writer’s Group after receiving a college bachelor’s degree in music. She simply had to return to her first love of writing.
While away from her computer, Kimalee is chasing after her two boys, laughing with her husband, and scouring the internet for the newest waterfall to swoon over. She adores pets, quaint towns, coffee, and the feel of a crisp book between her hands. On a humorous note, she will never understand the game of football and has an intense dislike for tomatoes!
