Annette Sisson

Annette Sisson lives in Nashville, TN with her husband and two dogs. She is the mother of three adult children and has spent her whole career as an English professor at Belmont University. Annette’s poems appear in Valparaiso Poetry Review, Birmingham Poetry Review, Rust and Moth, Cloudbank, Blue Mountain Review, Quartet, Cider Press Review, Cumberland River Review, Tupelo’s Milkweed Anthology, and many more. Her second book, Winter Sharp with Apples, was published by Terrapin Books in Oct 2024; her first book, Small Fish in High Branches, was published by Glass Lyre (2022), and her chapbook, A Casting Off, was published by Finishing Line (2019). Sisson won The Porch Writers’ Collective’s 2019 poetry prize, and her work has placed in other contests: Frontier New Voices, Fish Anthology, Lascaux Review Poetry Prize, and several others. Currently her poem “Deep in Milkweed” is in final contention for the 2024 Charles Simic Poetry Prize. She was a 2020 BOAAT Fellow and received the Mark Strand Scholarship to the Sewanee Writers’ Conference in 2021. Her poems have received nominations for The Pushcart Prize and/or Best of the Net every year beginning 2019.
