A brief summary: Born in 1979, in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Barata, still a little boy of 10 years old, began to study drawing. And it was love at first sketch.
The lines, shadows and shapes took over his heart and filled his chest with the desire to become a professional designer…
Ignoring all the warnings and notices about the almost non-existent recognition of the profession and the low remuneration, Barata graduated as a technician in Communication Design from ETE José Rocha Mendes; qualified in Visual Programming from Editoras Salesianas Dom Bosco; became a web designer at the SENAI and SENAC schools and specialized in illustration and comics in one of the first classes at Quanta Academia de Artes.
Professionally, the young Periplaneta Americana, at the peak of his 18 years, began working in advertising agencies, initially as an art assistant. During this period, he worked with creation, graphic design, logo development and visual identities, business cards, folders, publishing, layout and web design, but always working in parallel with illustration and mascot creation.
At the turn of 1999 to 2000, believing that the world would be destroyed in a nuclear catastrophe caused by the millennium bug, Barata left advertising. Since the world did not end, he began teaching drawing, illustration and comic books and working as a freelance illustrator.
He was art director at Quanta Estúdio for over 10 years. In addition to illustrating, I also took care of the art production and its quality and edited the comics of the Sesi-Quanta partnership, from 2015 to 2018.
I have worked on graphic projects (logotype, montage and letters) and layout of books such as Jogo do Bicho, Romeu & Julieta, A Tempestade, A Midsummer Night's Dream, A Defesa dos Dois Cavalos, Fante Bukowski - Obras Completas, A Mundana, Naturezas Mortas, O Grande, Gostoso Quente e Úmido Livro do Sexo, all published by Faria & Silva / Alta Books; the book E-Topia, by Recode; Quantoon, Cemitério dos Sonhos, Crônicas da Terra da Garôa, Kimera, a Última Cidade, Laser Gun, The Spaghetti Brothers, all published by Sesi-SP.
He was the editor/designer of the Quanta magazine, a digital periodical published from 2016 to 2021.
In addition, he is the author of the Supernatural Social Club series (3 books), published by Sesi-SP, and the independent comic book Divino Mundanismo.
