Deb Mortensen

Deb Mortensen is a retired elementary educator in Storm Lake, Iowa, where she taught for 39 years. Her love of writing began as a child, when she would carry books, her Big Chief tablet, and crayons wherever she went. Deb has written hundreds of poems, skits, and music programs, and journals daily. Deb was awarded “Iowa’s Reading Teacher of the Year” and has spoken on various literacy topics throughout the Midwest. She is the best-selling author of "Not Me!" ©2024 and "Not Mine!" ©2025. Both books received the Mom’s Choice Award and the Golden Wizard Book Prize.

"Not Now!" is Deb’s third book in the “I Can Be Responsible” series. Her books are based on experiences she had as a teacher and celebrate children taking responsibility for their actions. Deb is available for author visits at schools, libraries, and book signings where she shares her author journey with audiences of all ages.
