Mat Hadfield

Based in Ehime, Japan, Mat Hadfield is the host of the Hadean Press podcast, founder of the Grimorium Verum Study Group and neokoros of The Vault on Substack.

Mat has a great love for the European Grimoire corpus and is particularly interested in the continued development of a modern Goetic tradition. His writing largely focuses on attempting to reconstruct lost or corrupted aspects of historical source materials as a means to inform and revitalise this emerging animistic practice. While the materials he studies can have many heterodox, dark or forbidden themes, his sorcery is life-affirming and describes a means of engaging a deeply interwoven ecology of spirit, myth and time, always with an emphasis on integration within the World.

Mat has written extensively on the subjects of necromancy, the Greek Magical Papyri, astrological sorcery, mythic time, divination and spirit conjuration. He is the author of, 'A Wondrous Spell - Necromancy in the PGM', 'The Hours - The Καταρχαί of Hygromanteia' and, 'An Exposition upon the Sphere of the Cosmos - The Astrological Nigromancy of Cecco d'Ascoli'.
