Steven Haylestrom SME.

I see myself as a visionary author and advocate for affordable, high-quality housing. With a mission to revolutionize the construction industry.

I see myself as a man of many lives from husband and father to workaholic. Starting my first business at 21 (a Driving School) I have had a lifelong struggle trying to determine my place in the world and discover my purpose, always wanting to help, always wanting to “Save The World”. BUT never figuring out how I could best accomplish this.

Although I have no personal experience of either Homelessness or Drug & Alcohol Addiction and dependency, I have seen the effects and the consequences close-up throughout my life. Having grown up in a challenging part of Toronto with older brothers and sisters all dealing with all of the above and more. In my position as the youngest and the peace maker or perhaps peacekeeper. I have learnt that solving this challenge, the challenge of being able to provide a stable home for everyone has become my purpose and should be a priority for everyone. A good, happy, productive beautiful life starts with a home.

I like to combine my expertise in modular and prefabricated building solutions with a deep commitment to addressing the housing crisis. My latest book, Unsheltered Realities: Understanding the Relationship between Drug Overdose Deaths, the Toxic Drug Supply, and the Lack of Affordable Housing in Canada, explores the intersection of housing insecurity and the overdose crisis, challenging readers to rethink the systems that contribute to homelessness and housing shortages.

Beyond my work as an author, I also work as a consultant and podcast host dedicated to making housing a human right, accessible to all.
