Alexander Van Dorn

Alexander Van Dorn is the author of practical, experience-based resources for individuals and professionals supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD/DD) and co-occurring mental health needs.

With over four decades of work in the field, he has served in a range of roles, including case management, behavioral consultation, program management, community care administration, and parent support. His work reflects a deep understanding of both the systems that support individuals and the real-life challenges faced by those providing care.

Holding a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, he approaches his work grounded in both professional training and lived experience, shaped by years of working directly with individuals, families, and support teams.

His books are designed to be practical, accessible, and immediately useful. Whether supporting parents navigating next steps or professionals working in complex care environments, his goal remains the same: to help others better understand behavior, build effective support strategies, and respond with clarity and confidence.

His What Now? Parent Guide and Toolkit Series provides guidance for families, while his training resources for professionals focus on dual diagnosis, behavior support, and real-world application in the field.
