Peter Donelly was born in 1952 in Melbourne and attended the University of Melbourne, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History and English, followed by a Master of Arts in Public Policy.
He was employed for thirty-two years in the Victorian public sector, including eighteen years at Victoria Police.
The inspiration for The Baker of Gippsland stems from Peter’s parents, who often took the family on holidays to Gippsland and visited towns where they had owned bakeries. Gathered around the card table on long summer evenings, Peter's parents, uncles, and aunts - all captivating storytellers - shared tales of the characters and events that would later shape his writing.
Now retired in inner-city Melbourne, Peter enjoys musing over Buddhist and philosophical works, along with some favourite supernatural classics. He enjoys leisurely walks each day around his beautiful suburb, overseas travel and catching up with his son, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons.
