Gregory O'Neill

Gregory O'Neill is an Australian author whose crime thrillers draw on more than two decades of living and working throughout Southeast Asia.

He has spent much of his adult life in Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Vietnam, working across education, international development, and government projects. Fluent in Thai and a frequent traveller throughout the region, he has developed a deep understanding of the people, cultures, and complex realities that shape modern Southeast Asia.

His work has taken him from the backstreets of Bangkok and the border towns of the Golden Triangle to remote villages, government offices, international agencies, and places rarely seen by tourists. These experiences provide the foundation for the authentic settings, characters, and investigations that feature in his novels.

O'Neill is the creator of the Declan Finney series, a collection of crime thrillers set against the backdrop of Thailand, Myanmar, and the wider Mekong region. The series follows former undercover police officer Declan Finney as he navigates corruption, organised crime, political intrigue, and the blurred line between justice and survival.

When not writing, Gregory divides his time between Australia and Thailand, where he continues to explore the people, places, and stories that inspire his work.
