Isaac Baley is an Associate Professor of Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, an Associate Researcher at the Center for Research in International Economics (CREI), and an Affiliated Professor at the Barcelona School of Economics. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from New York University and a Master’s in Economic Theory from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.
Isaac's research examines how firms and individuals make decisions in the presence of microeconomic frictions and how these choices shape the broader economy. His work focuses on firm pricing and investment behavior, monetary policy, international trade, labor markets, and the data economy, with publications in top economics journals.
Before academia, Isaac was an economic advisor at the Mexican Ministries of Economy and Finance, where he helped design policies to expand access to financial markets.
He is the co-author, with Laura Veldkamp, of "The Data Economy: Tools and Applications", published by Princeton University Press in 2025—a deep dive into how data is transforming economic decision-making.
