Born to a Pentecostal mother who married a Catholic, his early spiritual journey began at age five when his parents encouraged him to explore different faiths. At seventeen, he discovered Buddhism, beginning a journey of study and practice. After moving to New York City, he immersed himself in the underground nightlife scene, where avant-garde electronic music and urban culture shaped his spiritual perspective.

His books bridge Buddhist wisdom with contemporary LGBTQ+ experience, creating a new genre serving communities often overlooked in traditional spiritual texts. Based in Kentucky, Sparks continues writing while pursuing a musical career as electronic artist dFRAE, focusing on making Buddhist wisdom accessible to modern audiences.
