Jack Killen MD

Jack received his A.B. from Kenyon College in 1971, and M.D. from Tufts University in 1975. After his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in medical oncology at Georgetown University, he began a 35-year career overseeing multi-disciplinary clinical research programs at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). From 1987-2003 he was Deputy Director and then Director of the Division of AIDS (DAIDS) in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), where he led the creation and evolution of major interdisciplinary research programs on HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention around the world, and the development of NIH policy on the ethics of clinical research in the developing world. In 2003 he brought that experience to what is now the NIH’s Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, where he became Deputy Director in 2007 and his work focused on studying the usefulness of complementary and integrative interventions in improving physical and emotional well-being and alleviating symptoms of chronic diseases. He retired in 2015, and is now exploring the intersections of neuroscience, personality, personal development, and spirituality. He is co-author of "Personality and Wholeness in Therapy", along with Daniel Siegel MD, David Daniels MD, Denise Daniels PhD, and Laura Baker PhD. He has been a Narrative Tradition certified Enneagram teacher since 2004.
