Nicholas Butts

Nicholas Butts is an expert in geopolitics, AI and US-China relations. He writes on topics at the intersection of business, politics and technology.

Nicholas leads AI- and Cybersecurity Policy at Microsoft. He previously held senior commercial roles at Faculty AI as well as various policy- and strategy roles at HP Inc where he lead government relations and trade teams, including leading efforts on supply chain resiliency, US-China trade war, Brexit, COVID etc. Nicholas also led engagement with policy-makers around the world, incl. the White House, European Commission and Chinese leaders. A sought-after speaker, Nicholas regularly advise governments, investors, companies and startups on tech policy.

Nicholas holds an LL.M. from Peking University, an MSc from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and an MPA from Harvard University (John F. Kennedy School of Government) where he was also a Crown Prince Frederik Scholar and a Cheng Fellow. He serves on the board of Harvard Kennedy School Fund Executive Council.
