Joanna Gamper Cuthbert

Joanna is a former dancer, cheer athlete, head coach, programme owner and National Team Manager for Team England Adaptive Abilities Cheer at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships in 2016 and 2017. Her career in dance includes roles as Director of Outreach, Head of Engagement, and Learning and Participation Programme Manager at one of the world’s leading conservatoires for contemporary dance training.

She currently Chairs the Board of SportCheer England, the National Governing Body for Cheerleading in England, and works as a consultant specialising in athlete welfare, safeguarding, culture change and safeguarding education across sport and the performing arts.

With a deep passion for creating environments in which people can thrive, Joanna’s consultancy, Squad Safe, works with organisations to strengthen safeguarding practice, develop confident and accountable leadership, improve culture and embed athlete welfare at the heart of decision-making. Her work focuses on helping organisations move beyond compliance to create safer, healthier and more empowering environments for everyone involved in sport and the performing arts.
