Kapil Dev V

I'm Kapil Dev V, a senior data and analytics engineer in Bengaluru, India. I've worked with data since 2016, first as an MIS analyst at 247.ai and then at Udaan and Paytm, in marketplace operations, payments and finance. In the early years that meant putting reports together by hand. Now I build the layer the reports come from: dbt models on Databricks and AWS Athena, pipelines in Python, SQL and PySpark, and reconciliation checks that confirm a number before anyone acts on it. One of those pipelines cut a recurring report from 18 hours of manual work to 30 minutes.

My books cover SQL, dbt, data engineering, Excel and MCP, the protocol that connects AI assistants to tools and data. Each one teaches by building something. The dbt cookbooks build one warehouse from end to end, and the project is on GitHub for you to clone. The two By Diagram books explain a data platform through diagrams, with the text walking you through each one. I run the code in a book before it goes to print and check the printed results against those runs.

I also build agentic AI workflows (skills, hooks and test loops that make a team's repeat work run the same way every time) and teach through KDV Tutors, where the SQL practice playgrounds give you a real PostgreSQL database in the browser.
