Mary Kitchener

Mary Kitchener is Head of Academic Development and Associate Professor at Oxford Brookes University. A Senior Fellow of Advance HE, she leads accredited provision and champions inclusive curriculum design. Mary specialises in academic leadership, teacher education, and reflective practice, with a focus on supporting professionals transitioning into Higher Education“pracademics.” Her research explores academic induction, gender-sensitive pedagogy, and collaborative curriculum development. She is the author of A Field Guide to Working in Higher Education (Routledge, 2025), a practical guide mapped to the Advance HE Professional Standards Framework. Mary’s work has been published by Routledge, Springer Nature, and Cambridge Scholars, alongside contributions to BERA, SEDA, and the Society for Education and Training.
