Alan Sears

Alan Sears is a Professor Emeritus recently in the Department of Sociology at Toronto Metropolitan University. He is a long-time socialist, queer activist, and theorist of movements. He has written on sexualities, the state and social policy, education policy and radical organizing. His latest book is Eros and Alienation: Capitalism and the Making of Gendered Sexualities (Pluto Press). His previous books include The Next New Left: A History of the Future (Fernwood) and Retooling the Mind Factory: Education in a Lean State (Garamond Press). He also co-authored two books with James Cairns, The Democratic Imagination: Envisioning Popular Power in the 21st Century (University of Toronto Press) and A Good Book in Theory: Making Sense through Inquiry (University of Toronto Press).
