I’ve been writing stories since I was 8, fuelled by a love of reading. At school I was the girl who won the writing competitions and took further qualifications in creative writing. I failed maths...

Marketing was my career because I could put my two best assets to effective use – my imagination and passion for writing. Four non-fiction books followed with two especially reaching the bestsellers and staying there for many years, winning several awards.

Fiction, however is my first love.

So, at 62, I decided to stop faffing and start writing fiction. The Boutique was born.

What was my writing process? Well, I spent weeks on end thinking about each character; not so much what they look like (I would rather you form your own picture) but their personality traits, their resilience, and their zest for life. I can’t tell you the number of writing pads in my wardrobe, full of scribbles and thoughts, captured as they popped into my mind, at all times of the day and night.

Next, the storyline for each person. I have covered gritty subjects, partly because of my own turbulent childhood and back story of addiction, but also because I loved the idea of merging facts with fiction. I want you to relate to the characters and to be rooting for them as their story unfolds.

Feedback so far that has touched my heart? Two readers have told me I've rekindled their love of reading...another, they love my characters and identify with many.

Where do I write?

Most days you’ll find me in the garden log cabin where I’m guaranteed solitude, a comfy sofa, power points, plenty of space to spread out my pads and pens, plus a table littered with water, candles and coffee. It’s the ultimate writer’s retreat!
