“I never thought that I would become an author, much less an author of a children’s book.” DW Sartain has taken a first step into the colorful world of children’s literature with the release of his first work, A Red Balloon, a story that he says was inspired by his daughter and her love for picture books, specifically her obsession with the red balloon that makes a brief appearance in Margaret Wise Brown’s Goodnight Moon. “I have had the manuscript written for over two years, but after our family experienced the unexpected loss of the only child to call me uncle, I felt that I had missed an opportunity to share the story with my niece…that I had waited too long to push and get it published.” According to Sartain, that tragedy pushed him to become a children’s author.
A Red Balloon is currently DW’s only published work, but he is excited to be finishing a second manuscript with another being planned. He is a blue collar husband and father with an English degree earned from Georgia College and State University. Originally from Elberton, Georgia, he currently resides in North Augusta, South Carolina.
