Her stories are about people systems try to make small: through files, doors, reports, lists, silence, false care, or old guilt. She is not interested in the loud monster in the dark as much as the person standing in the bright hallway, holding the red pencil, making a checkmark, and saying it is all for someone’s own good.

Sabine Traeder was born in Duisburg in 1979 and carries the Ruhr region in her language, attitude, and material: direct, grounded, critical, warm-hearted, and without false ceremony. Her novels combine suspense, psychological depth, body logic, institutional horror, and characters who do not have to act like heroes to endure.

In The Elendt Files, she tells stories set in the Ruhr region of the 1980s, where files are not only evidence, but weapons.
