Joyce Becker Lee (MFA, Northwestern University) is the author of Casualties, a short story collection that was short-listed for the Bridge Book Award and nominated for a Pen/Bingham. She has worked as a teacher, newspaper reporter and editor, theater columnist and textbook developer/writer, as well as an egg candler, chocolate inspector, and petting farm guide. Her work has been published in Cicada, Chicken Soup for the Soul, The First Line, MemoryHouse, Jerry Jazz Musician, Escape into Life, Prairies North, Folklore, Lunch Ticket, and The Author, among others. A former English/Theater teacher and lifelong theater enthusiast, she has directed and performed in educational, community and professional theater and opera, and is the author/composer of seven children's musicals. She was founding chair of her local Arts Commission and volunteers with Reach dog rescue in Mundelein, but most enjoys her time spent chasing grandchildren.
