AVEEN KURDI

Aveen Kurdi is a Kurdish-American writer, poet, and educator who was raised in Boston, USA, and is currently living in her homeland, Kurdistan. With a Master of Arts in Literature and Language, Kurdi brings a deep academic foundation to her creative work. Throughout her life, she has demonstrated a remarkable work ethic, balancing full-time employment in various roles, ranging from teaching to private equity while also being a full-time student.

Kurdi's writing explores themes of identity, loss, and resilience. With a deep connection to her cultural roots, Kurdi weaves personal experiences with universal emotions, capturing the beauty and complexity of human relationships. Her poetry collection, Where Pomegranate Flowers Bleed, delves into the heartache and healing in love, grief, and the spaces between.

Currently, Kurdi is a university instructor of literature, academic writing, and interdisciplinary studies, she brings a rich, thoughtful perspective to her classroom, blending literature, philosophy, and the arts with the pressing issues of our time, including the intersections of technology, politics, ethics, and society. When she’s not writing, Kurdi embraces the world through travel and reading, drawing inspiration from a rich tapestry of cultures, stories, and perspectives. Aiming to write and support Kurdistan in the same way her mother, Gulnar Ali—a renowned poet and novelist—did, she strives to carry forward the legacy of art and literature that deeply connects to her heritage.
