Dear Reader

I was raised in Ann Arbor, where the University of Michigan was everything. I remember parking cars in our front lawn for football games. You could hear the band practice from miles away. My first apartment was in the shadow of their monstrous stadium, a great setting for a science fiction story all by itself. Maybe I’ll get to that some day.

After a tour in the Navy, I moved to Texas, where I worked in the chemical and refining industries that surround the city of Houston, and taught in the local community college. I still travel frequently to Michigan, where my family owns a small farm near the summer home of a young Ernest Hemingway. The lovely countryside nearby must have inspired him, as it does me..

My wife Kitty and I are both now retired teachers, living near the Texas gulf coast. We have three children and four grandchildren, all of them perfect in their own way.
