Jacqueline Owens

Jacqueline Owens is a novelist and screenwriter who lives in Wellington, New Zealand. She has a Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Screen and Television from the University of Southern California’s School of Film and Television. Her manuscript Vividwater was longlisted for Grindstone Literary International Novel Prize, and was shortlisted twice in the Laura Solomon Cuba Press Prize.

Excerpts and short stories from manuscript After the Encore were published in CommuterLit, Litbreak and The Write Launch and were a finalist in the London Independent Story Prize, 2020-2021. A young adult novel, Bluest Moon, was published in the 1990s.

Feature screenplays have won the New Zealand Writers Guild (NZWG) Best Unproduced Screenplay Competition and were, quarterfinalists in the Nicholl and Blue Cat competitions.

Outside of writing, she wrangles aviation experts to write manuals on aviation safety, and made the most of degrees in Classics and Politics to be a grand finalist on MastermindNZ in 2016, with specialist subjects, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Classical Greek mythology.
