Mike co-founded MIT’s literary magazine Rune and studied poetry under David Ferry at Wellesley while he was earning his PhD in artificial intellegence. He was named a Luce Scholar in 1977 and translated the Hyaku Nin Isshu during his year at Kyoto University. He is currently translating a collection of haiku written by Japanese-American detainees circa 1942. In his “day job”, Mike consults with banks and investment firms on data analytics and artificial intelligence. Mike splits his time between his apartment in Yamashina and Vancouver, Washington.
