David Lovegrove is an Australian writer, illustrator and visual artist, with a passion for history, archeology and languages.
He has been fascinated by the Viking Age and the 'Dark Ages' since he was at High School in the early 70's, and has studied the Icelandic language and Old Icelandic/Old Norse for many years, in the last several years becoming very immersed in this study.
In his Viking Superpowers book series he will be diving into the rarely studied, (though incredibly prevalent), paranormal in the ancient stories contained in the Icelandic sagas, and the two collections of mythic story and poetry known as the Eddas.
As a number of scholars have been doing within the biblical tradition, David has been re-translating the mythic texts written in mediaeval Iceland, but set in the Viking Age and much earlier, and finding surprising stories of paleocontact, flying machines, high tech devices and even orbital space stations and interstellar travel.
He approaches these stories of unusual history and paranormal human superpowers with a very open mind, having been lucky enough to experience many such things in his own reasonably long life, including a dramatic near death experience in 1980, a possible Close encounter of the Third Kind in 1978, and other experiences coming out of his practice of Indian yoga, Chinese kung fu, and visual art practices.
In 2024 he spent a month in Scandinavia and Iceland researching for his new book - 'Viking Superpowers - Way of Asgard'.
David has a never ending enthusiasm for knowledge and discovery, and has pursued many interests to a high level.
He studied full-time for three years at the famous Classical art school, Julian Ashton's, in Sydney, graduating with a Diploma of Fine Art and winning the Henry Gibbons Drawing Prize (the school's premier drawing prize) in 1997.
In 2002 he gained a Masters degree in Visual Art from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University.
Having been trained in martial arts since childhood (beginning in 1967), he began training in internal Chinese Kung Fu in 1997, and is an acknowledged Master.
Japanese traditional arts, history, language and 'jidai geki' (Samurai films) have also been a long time passion.
