Bhante Sathi is a mindfulness and meditation teacher with more than thirty years of experience helping people cultivate greater awareness, self-understanding, compassion, wisdom, and inner peace.
Born and raised in a Buddhist family in Sri Lanka, Bhante developed a deep curiosity about life and the human mind from an early age. He was drawn to learning beyond the traditional classroom, exploring deeper questions about happiness, human behavior, and what it means to live a meaningful and peaceful life.
At the age of twenty, his search for a deeper understanding of life led him to enter a monastery, where he devoted himself to meditation, study, and contemplative training. Over time, he discovered that his greatest passion was not simply learning and practicing, but sharing what he had learned in ways that could make a meaningful difference in people’s everyday lives.
In 1999, Bhante moved to Southfield, Michigan, where he began teaching meditation classes and leading retreats. In 2003, he moved to Minnesota and founded Triple Gem of the North, a meditation community dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for mindfulness, meditation, and personal growth.
As the community grew, Bhante expanded his work by establishing the Mindfulness Center in Chaska, creating an accessible space for meditation, learning, and community practice. He later founded the Metta Meditation Center in Janesville, Minnesota, a residential retreat center surrounded by nature where people can step away from the demands of everyday life, deepen their practice, and reconnect with themselves.
For more than three decades, Bhante has taught mindfulness, meditation, self-reflection, compassion, and practical ways of understanding and working with the mind. His teaching brings ancient wisdom into contemporary life in a clear, approachable, and practical way. Rather than presenting mindfulness as something limited to formal meditation, he encourages people to bring awareness, understanding, and compassion into relationships, challenges, decisions, and the ordinary moments of daily life.
Bhante is the author of The Mind Workout: For a Lifetime of Happiness. Through his teaching, writing, retreats, and community work, his purpose remains simple: to help people understand their own minds more clearly, live with greater wisdom and compassion, and discover a deeper sense of peace within themselves.
