Patrick Morrissy

Patrick Morrissy dedicated forty-six years to community development, working tirelessly to stabilize and revitalize urban neighborhoods across America. After a lifetime of grassroots organizing and advocacy for economic justice, he now resides in Carbondale, Colorado with his wife Jean Campbell. Though retired, Patrick remains politically active, focusing his energy on reclaiming America for working people who have been left behind by an economy controlled by the wealthy and powerful.

His memoir, Staking Our Claim: The Fight For Better Housing In The 1970’s, captures the spirit of 1970s activism through his personal journey of reclaiming a Victorian house in East Orange, NJ, and building powerful community organizations that fought for tenant rights and affordable housing. Inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, Morrissy and his fellow organizers from the New Left launched Shelterforce, a national publication that continues to serve housing activists today.

If you believe in the power of community to create meaningful change, you'll find Patrick's journey both inspiring and instructive. His firsthand account of organizing against rising rents, battling slumlords, and challenging destructive government policies offers valuable lessons for anyone fighting for economic justice today.
