Curtis Flanagan

Curtis Flanagan grew up in Moncton, New Brunswick, often caught between worlds — not just in his dreams, but in everyday life. Like Thalen, the protagonist of Dream Origins, his childhood was shaped by a vivid inner world and a sense of being out of step with reality.

Diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia, and a speech impediment, Curtis also faced being tongue-tied — a condition that made speaking difficult until surgery at age seven gave him his voice. School was a challenge, but creativity became his refuge. He found solace in drawing, building, and storytelling — small dreamscapes that later evolved into the mythic worlds of his writing.

The Dream Origins series is a journey through memory, identity, and the subconscious, told through a character who mirrors Curtis’s inner life. His work speaks to anyone who’s ever felt different or lost between realities — and reminds them that even in fractured spaces, something beautiful can emerge.
