Gary A. Keith

Gary A. Keith is a member of the Writers’ League of Texas and the OldSchoolers—a small writers’ group. A Senior Lecturer in Government at the University of Texas, Dr. Keith teaches seminars on democracy. Keith’s publications include a Texas Politics textbook, an analysis of redistricting, and a biography of Congressman Bob Eckhardt—which was a finalist for the WLT Violet Crown Award for Nonfiction and was featured at the Texas Book Festival. Now he is turning all of that experience into stories of fiction, writing novels—which are based in and around Austin, at the state capitol, and on the Forty Acres of UT. In 2023 his poetic essay "On Turning 70, in Texas" was published in Huston-Tillotson University's 900 Chicon literary journal. Keith’s current fiction writing—AUSTIN BLUES and a soon-to-be second novel—is drawn from his experiences as a longtime Austinite engaged with its politics, culture, and music scene.
