JD Jackson is a retired history teacher who writes the kind of books she wishes someone had handed her in school—funny, weird, true, and impossible to put down. She is the brain behind the You Can’t Make This Stuff Up! series, which proves once and for all that humans have always been a disaster.
She also writes the Tales of Courage series, featuring real-life heroes who did incredible things while the rest of us were probably losing arguments with our toasters.
When she’s not writing, JD can be found:
Researching history’s dumbest decisions and wondering how we’re all still here
Drinking coffee strong enough to register on the Richter scale
Trying to format her book correctly for the fifth time (and questioning her life choices)
Or proudly telling anyone who will listen that yes, history really is weird!
JD is also known by the pen name "Mam-Maw Dee." Typically, Mam-Maw Dee is the name used when writing children's books, coloring books, or books about the south.
If you like your history true, bizarre, and just the right amount of sarcasm, you’ve found your new favorite author. Just don’t ask her to tell you a normal bedtime story. She doesn’t do “normal.”
