Bula,
I am Jese Temo, a storyteller, musician, communicator, and follower of Jesus Christ from the beautiful islands of Fiji.
Born on the island of Lakeba in the Lau group, I grew up in the village of Nukunuku as part of the Muanakauli Tribe (Yavusa), the warrior clan of Matakei, and the subclan Drala-kaka. My early years were shaped by the rich oral traditions of my people — the chants, stories, and village life — but also by the Christian faith that became central to my identity.
As a staff kid at Fulton College, I was baptised into the Seventh-day Adventist Church at the age of sixteen. My love for God and respect for His law have remained anchors in my life, even though I readily admit I have not always kept them perfectly. Grace, mercy, and the transforming power of Christ are themes that quietly weave through much of my writing.
I have spent over three decades in media, education, and communications — starting as a junior copywriter at the Fiji Broadcasting Commission in 1993, working as a journalist for the Fiji Times, Daily Post, and Fiji Sun, lecturing in health communications, journalism, and film editing at Fiji School of Medicine and Fiji National University, and serving in various roles with the Bible Society, Habitat Fiji, and the Consumer Council of Fiji.
Today I work as a freelance communication consultant, video producer, and storyteller.
Beyond writing and media, I am a multi-instrumentalist (keyboards, ukulele, rhythm guitar, bass, drums, percussion, saxophone, and harmonica — at varying levels of skill!), an enthusiastic home cook, a volunteer music teacher, and someone who still enjoys getting my hands dirty in the garden growing dalo, vegetables, and more.
I love reading, learning, and creating — whether through words, music, or video.
On a personal note, I am happily married to a wonderful woman from Micronesia, and we are raising three teenage boys together. Family, faith, and creativity are the heartbeat of our home. My books are born from this rich tapestry — the voices of my Fijian ancestors, the hope of the Gospel, the realities of island life, and the universal experiences of love, struggle, growth, and redemption.
Whether I’m writing fiction, reflections, or stories that bridge culture and faith, my desire is simple: to create work that honors God, reflects truth, and connects hearts across cultures.
Thank you for taking the time to read my stories. I hope they bring you encouragement, reflection, or simply a good escape into the world of the South Pacific.
Warm regards,
Jese Temo
