Maxwell Field

Born and bred in Coventry, 75 year old Maxwell Field, studied French at King's College, London Univ. (BA, AKC) before gaining a PGCE at Emmanuel College, Cambridge Univ. Two years were spent abroad during this period, firstly in Chambéry, Savoy, France and then in Zürich, Switzerland. He married Marine, a French graduate, in 1973, in Chambéry.

Teaching first at Stamford School for three years (1974-77), then back in Coventry at King Henry VIII School till 1999, he left to join the Police Staff till 2016, when he retired. He remained, however, an OCR GCSE Examiner over this period.

Mountain walking has always been a passion and his MLC from Plas-y-Brenin has honed his navigation skills up to many isolated sites in the French pre-Alps to further his research.

Sport has always figured highly, especially cricket: England Schools at U15 and U19 levels; London Univ. "Purple" and Captain; Cambridge "Blue", Birmingham League and Warwickshire 1st XI. Rugby at Schools' County level (U-15 and U-19) and playing for Chambéry v Toulouse away in the French Championship in 1970.

His deep interest in the original research by Lincoln, Baigent and Leigh in their "Holy Blood and Holy Grail" (1982) has continued to this day, culminating in this lavishly illustrated book, including countless hours of research, including trekking into the mountains to check on hitherto unrelated sites.
