About the Author

Daisy Hilmar is a mother of three, a lifelong educator, and a passionate advocate for children and families navigating life’s biggest changes. A former classroom teacher and founding parent of a Waldorf school in the Pacific Northwest, Daisy has spent decades helping children thrive through creativity, rhythm, and emotional resilience.

In the early 1990s, she launched one of the first homeschool enrichment programs in the United States. This pioneering effort earned her induction into the Alternative Education Hall of Fame in 1996. Her work has been shaped by years of studying parenting and education across cultures, drawing from a wide range of traditions to support children with empathy and understanding.

Since then, Daisy has written and spoken widely about childhood emotional development, parenting, and alternative education. She is the author of dozens of books grounded in simplicity, compassion, and deep respect for the inner life of the child.

Her work now includes two beloved collections: The After the Storm Series, a gentle and comforting set of picture books that help children feel safe and supported after natural disasters; and The Velvet Ribbon Series, a poignant exploration of Czech history, memory, and identity.

Both series focusing on sharing stories of survival—whether from disaster or displacement. Each book honors the quiet strength it takes to begin again, offering young readers stories of resilience and remembrance, bridging generations through truth and tenderness.

Daisy’s books are trusted by parents, educators, and therapists alike for their warm, grounding presence and ability to offer comfort through change. Whether through rhythm, nature, or story, her work centers on helping children feel deeply connected, nurtured, and whole.
