I’ve always loved to tell stories.

In preschool, I told my teacher that my dad had died in a terrible accident and my mom was in mourning. She believed me. Pickup was awkward. My mother assured her it wasn’t true—I just liked to tell stories.

Years of “planning to write” finally gave way to action when I started Marlee Foxglove and the Dragon as a bedtime adventure for my two daughters. I wanted them to have a heroine they could identify with—someone brave, bright, and beautifully different.

Our home is full of love and full of life with SPD, ADHD, OCD, Dyslexia, and Anxiety. These aren’t flaws—they’re features. They’re part of our every day, and they live in the characters I write, too.

This isn’t a gimmick or marketing tactic. Many of the moments in Marlee’s story come straight from conversations and challenges we’ve lived as a family. If you or someone you love lives with these realities, I hope this story reminds you: you are not alone. You are seen. And you’re stronger than you think.

Or, as the Morrigan might say: “Forward, my child—Always forward.”
