Thomas Keith

Dr. Thomas Keith teaches philosophy and gender studies at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and Claremont Graduate University, where he received his Ph.D. in American philosophy and pragmatism with an emphasis on issues of race, class, and gender. In 2008 and 2011, respectively, Keith wrote, directed, and produced the bestselling Media Education Foundation films "Generation M: Misogyny in Media and Culture" and "The Bro Code: How Contemporary Culture Creates Sexist Men." In 2015, his film "The Empathy Gap: Masculinity and the Courage to Change" was released. In 2019, Keith directed the film "Bullied," which enjoyed a successful festival run and garnered 12 international film awards. In 2021, he directed the film "How Does It Feel To Be a Problem?" which won Best Documentary feature at the Soho International Film Festival and garnered Keith the Best Director award at Queens World Film Festival, NYC. In 2017, Keith's book "Masculinities in Contemporary American Culture (Taylor & Francis) was released and in 2021, his book "The Bro Code: The Fallout of Raising Boys to Objectify and Subordinate Women (Taylor & Francis) released to strong reviews. In 2025, "Masculinity at the Movies" was released as an investigation of a century of male representation in motion pictures. Keith speaks at universities throughout the world and his book are used internationally in college and university classrooms.
