Grace NR Gibraltar, PhD, is the author of Tales of the Epping Forest, a crossover fiction short story that appeals to readers of all ages—especially those who have experienced sudden life changes. The story features original photography from Epping Forest in the United Kingdom. Dr. Gibraltar writes literature to remind people that they have paths forward to better their mental health, propel their rehabilitation, and to inspire resilience. She writes academic, peer-reviewed articles in psychology, as well as science communication and knowledge translation pieces for non-academic audiences. Her fiction writing serves as a form of storytelling to convey psychological concepts that support better mental health. Her stories and contributions to literature are grounded in themes of promoting curiosity, perseverance, kindness, and a love of learning. She also advocates for addressing unmet mental health needs and supports policy reform in mental health care.
She was born and raised in Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada, where kindness and a can-do attitude are a way of life, and brings this with her to her life in the UK. In addition to her work as an author, Dr. Gibraltar is a Chartered Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Neuroscientist, and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She focuses on psychotherapy, specifically relational, compassion-first cognitive behavioral therapy for mental disorders and is interested to develop new psychotherapeutic interventions for special clinical and non-clinical populations. Dr. Gibraltar is a proud member of the Authors Guild Foundation in New York City.
She believes deeply in the healing power of nature and its vital role in promoting health and positive psychology. She advocates spending time in nature, reading, and visiting libraries as essential activities for the mental well-being of children, adults, and older adults alike. One of her favorite places on Earth is the Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Dr. Gibraltar values engaging with diverse groups of individuals across all age ranges and maintains friendships that span from toddlers to people in their 90s.
