Frank Eccles

Frank Eccles was born in Manchester in 1923. He served in the 1st Parachute Brigade and was captured at Arnhem. After the war he qualified as a school teacher and taught in Yorkshire, Germany and Cumbria. Where ever he lived he became involved with rugby both as a player and a referee. On settling on the Cumbrian coast, he was able to indulge a lifelong love of the sea, sailing a junk-rigged schooner. Frank Eccles died on New Years Day 2013, just short of his 90th birthday. He published three seafaring novels set in the Napoleonic wars. An unfinished novel based on his war time experiences was published in 2024
