MJ Long grew up by the sea, where she spent her childhood exploring tidepools, collecting shells, and marveling at the tiny creatures beneath the waves. As a long-time teacher and a mother of two, she’s shared her love of reading and coastal adventures with students and her children. Though she’s only spotted one pipefish in the wild, it left a lasting impression and inspired her to share the magic of the Chesapeake Bay with curious young readers everywhere.

The illustrator, Miles R. Long, is happiest exploring the marshes, where he spends his days finding horseshoe crabs and scallops, watching birds, and soaking in the quiet magic of the coast. With a deep love for nature and a sharp eye for coastal life, Miles brings curiosity and wonder to every tidepool and shoreline he visits.
