Hi, I’m A. D. Buchan – writer, worldbuilder, and proud Dungeons & Dragons addict.
For over a decade, storytelling has been my creative anchor. Whether it was scribbling down fragments of an idea, fleshing out short stories, or spinning epic arcs across the table during a DnD session, I’ve always been chasing the next tale worth telling. Am I a good writer? That’s for you to decide. But I know I’m a damn good storyteller, and that’s what drives me.
The story that started it all was born in 2012 and finally given life in 2017 – The Long War, the first book in what would become the Akertia series. It sat in quiet slumber for years, collecting metaphorical dust while I explored other creative outlets. Chief among them: diving headfirst into the glorious chaos of Dungeons & Dragons. I built a sprawling homebrew world, ran multiple long-term campaigns, and constructed more characters in my imagination than I could count (seriously, please send help).
But something kept calling me back – Akertia.
Like a dream you can't shake, the world I had started years ago whispered again. It reminded me why I began writing in the first place: to explore ideas, question truths, and discover what stories are really made of.
I’ve never sought out traditional publishing, and truthfully, I like my current path. I value the freedom to tell my story the way it was meant to be told – with all its raw edges and honest imperfections. This is an independent journey. I’m not here to follow a blueprint; I’m here to bring my world to life and invite you into it.
My approach to writing is shaped by years of immersive storytelling through roleplay, creative writing, and asking big, strange questions. Like: what is an idea? Are the stories we tell born from us, or are we born to tell them? Don’t worry, I won’t get too philosophical (well, maybe a little). These deeper threads are sprinkled throughout, just enough to make you wonder while you're caught up in a tale of battles, shifting truths, and the grey space between good and evil.
Because Akertia is just that – a tale of the fallen, a story that needs to be told, and a journey we’re about to take together.
So here’s where it all starts. My debut in this world. With Patreon support, an Instagram, and a whole lot of passion squeezed in between a full-time job and rolling dice with friends.
If you’ve read this far – thank you. I’m excited (and slightly terrified) to finally share this universe with you. I hope you enjoy the ride.
Lux in tenebris, numquam soli sumus.
