John Bulmer

John Bulmer is a photojournalist, author, and podcaster based in New York's Capital Region. A professional photographer since 1999, he has spent decades working in challenging conditions across the American Northeast, documenting weather events, wilderness rescues, and the overlooked histories of the Hudson Valley and Adirondacks. His work has appeared in the New York Times and numerous international publications.

Bulmer is the founder of Adirondack Mountain News, the creator of the popular Substack Restoration Obscura, and the host of the Restoration Obscura Field Guide Podcast. He is the author of Restoration Obscura's Field Guide to the Night and the founder of Adirondack Mountain Rescue, and regularly serves as a subject matter expert in backcountry search and rescue operations for print and broadcast media.

The Albany Protocol is his debut thriller, set along the Hudson River and in the research corridors of upstate New York during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
