Helmut Jakob

After retiring, Helmut Jakob finally found the time to fully devote himself to his passion for writing. This allowed him to put into words his long-standing enthusiasm for storytelling. In 2025, he published his debut science fiction novel — a genre that has fascinated him since childhood. His goal is to avoid well-worn clichés. Rather than focusing on exaggerated fantasy worlds, his stories explore believable visions of the future and scenarios grounded in realistic possibilities.

In addition to his novels, he writes short stories across a wide range of genres: from imaginative children’s tales and atmospheric Christmas stories to gripping crime fiction and further journeys into fantastical as well as dystopian worlds. What especially inspires him is the diversity of possibilities that writing offers — creating vivid imagery with words and transporting readers into other worlds.

Helmut Jakob lives near Aachen with his wife, a dog, and two cats. During walks with his mixed-breed dog and in the quiet moments of everyday life, he continually finds new inspiration for his stories.
