Jesus Barroso

JESUS BARROSO is a Cuban-born writer and storyteller.

As a child, he grew up listening to his grandmother, Adela, sing Vinagrito—one of Cuba’s most beloved children’s songs—a melody that would one day inspire his first published story.

He moved to the United States one month before his 14th birthday, knowing no English and carrying only hope, resilience, and memories of home.

At 21, he became a father to his daughter, to whom he passed down the Vinagrito song—bridging cultures and sharing a piece of the island she’s never known.

Motivated by a love of self-improvement and a desire to set an example, Jesus returned to school. At 28, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, and two years later, a master’s in Information Systems Management, both from the University of Arizona.

When he’s not writing, he enjoys tinkering with computers, watching movies, and traveling the world—but his favorite pastime by far is being a dad.
