I believe that children's literature has a profound responsibility to reflect the diverse and beautiful reality of childhood, when a child picks up one of my books, I hope they recognise themselves, their siblings, their friends, and the familiar warmth of their own family within the pages.
My writing process is often a playful, I might recall a funny anecdote from days out with my family and from that a character begins to emerge, a brave knight or a beautiful princess or a curious explorer or even a mischievous little creature.
I strive to imbue my stories with a sense of wonder, a touch of humour, and a gentle message about the importance of love, kindness, and belonging. These are the values that my family and friends have consistently modelled for me, and they are the values I wish to pass on to the next generation.
So, when you open one of my books, know that you are not just reading a story. You are stepping into a world built on shared laughter, cherished memories, and the enduring power of human connection. You are, in essence, meeting the people who mean the most to me, brought to life for your child to discover and, perhaps, to love as dearly as I do.
