W. S. Hurst

A native Kansan, W. S. Hurst is a practicing Heathen and dedicated Volva who follows the ways of her ancestors by incorporating the Nine Noble Virtues into her life on a daily basis.

Formally educated with a Bachelors of Science in Communication and Education from Pittsburg State University. Education was my first love. This love of teaching hopefully follows through writing.

My goal with my writing is to close the gap between the ways of our ancestors, their world and lifestyle and our modern society. I would like to disenable myths and pessimistic thoughts that have been inbred into our current society. I find it frustrating and exasperating that certain words have become taboo, naughty and even forbade in modern society. I would like to change the negative connotation and thought process with words such as: Heathen and Pagan.

Furthermore, my goal is to help set a baseline of whom we are and whom we are NOT. We are a loving, tight-knit, self-reliant people; one where family is strong and steadfast. It is a falsehood that we are unwilling to accept outsiders into our inner circles and families, but just the opposite. We choose who we call family and are loyal to those who are loyal to us and show us their worth. We honor our families and ancestors. We back our husbands and wives. We enable our children to be strong and sturdy. Our families are “teams.”

I am inspired to be the best partner, friend, sister, daughter and person I can be through our Heathen lifestyle. I desire to be a devoted representative of the gods to the general public. The Nine Noble Virtues, Six-Fold Goals, Additional Thews and Havamal guide my daily life choices. Heathenism has taught me and given me the power to become unconditionally, unapologetically me. I am a Heathen Woman in our Modern Society.
