My daughter was born in 2019 with a rare, partially malignant tumor. Because of multiple surgeries and the location of her tumor, she has permanent nerve damage and required intervention to keep her kidneys functioning properly. A few weeks later, while I was driving, she asked me, “Mommy, when am I going to be normal like everyone else?” In the weeks that followed, I felt like God was opening my eyes to countless children facing medical challenges. That’s when I knew I needed to write a book that normalizes differences—because, ultimately, our differences are part of our story.

It’s so important to me that my daughter, and all children, understand that there is no such thing as normal. We are exactly as God created us to be—perfect through and through. Every character in this book is based on a real child experiencing a medical challenge. I want kids to feel seen, exactly as they are. I believe that God has placed each of us here for a reason, and that He can use even the hardest circumstances for His glory.
